Rebecca Gitter has been teaching yoga to kids and adults in the DC area for more than a decade. She has trained more that 100 kids yoga teachers specializing in trainings for baby, toddlers, tweens & teens. She co-wrote teacher training manuals and curriculum for both Baby & Toddler Yoga and for sharing Yoga in Schools. Rebecca completed her adult yoga training in 2006 at the Yoga Center, Columbia, MD. She is certified to teach Itsy Bitsy Yoga for Baby, Tots, Tykes and Little Families classes. She is also a Licensed Yoga 4 Classrooms Instructor. Continuing studies with Radiant Child, Budding Yogis, Yoga for the Special Child, YoKid, ChildLight Yoga and specialized training in both prenatal and postnatal yoga. Rebecca brings a sense of humor to her classes and focuses on meeting her students - of any age- exactly where they are.
Sharing yoga and mindfulness with young children and their caregivers has been the focus of Rebecca's teaching, she also teaches yoga to adults, most recently helping to establish a weekly "community yoga" class in her neighborhood that has introduced yoga in an accessible class to those who swore they would "never like yoga!" In the past year, she has returned to her yoga roots by focusing her teaching on prenatal yoga - where she first discovered and fell in love with the practice. Yoga in pregnancy supported her own deliveries, made for a faster recovery and has cultivated a grounding practice that helps balance the challenges of parenting. Teaching to any age group always leaves her smiling and inspires her personal practice.
Rebecca has expanded her deep desire to provide support to parents beyond the mat as a trained birth & postpartum doula. She serves families in DC and Maryland, providing prenatal visits to prepare for labor & birth and postpartum visits to help with the transition at home. As a birth doula she supports your choices in labor and delivery with the provider and location of your choice, providing comfort measures and offering positional changes as needed. As a postpartum doula offering evidence based information and care to help parent(s) get off to a great start. She enjoys listening to her clients' plans, wishes and birth stories, helping them with preparing them nutritious meals and snacks, and helping all family members (including the 4 legged kind) to adjust to this new phase of life.
When she isn't teaching or nourishing families you might find her on a trail - hiking biking or being walked by her dog.
I was lucky enough to spend an entire weekend training with Rebecca. She is a professional, fun, personable and engaging leader and trainer. Her experience and knowledge is invaluable. Her love for teaching, yoga and children is evident in all she does. It was truly a pleasure to participate in her [workshop] Jenn F.
Rebecca is funny, well-informed, and just a joy. She presents information in a hands-on manner that is practical and and a perfect delivery system! Lisa H.
